It is helpful to follow a few guidelines when staging a home for sale; your home and yard should generate maximum curb appeal, "less is best", cleanliness is paramount and your home should be de-personalized as much as possible. She can draw on her many years experience as an artist and home decorator to help you stage your home without extravagant spending to accomplish the best possible look to your home.
Curb appeal
Trim the bushes, mow the lawn more often, make sure sidewalks are clear and unobstructed, add potted plants if flower beds are not part of your landscape and make sure your doors are clean or freshly painted including garage doors. It is helpful to make sure window blinds are all open or all closed which helps to demonstrate an organized and well kept home. Make sure windows are sqeaky clean.
Less is best
Make sure your home is free of clutter and that only the minimum furnishing are kept that best demonstrate the attractive features of your home. Make sure closets are neat and well ordered since prospective buyers will open and examine closet space.
Cleanliness is paramount
Windows, counter tops, sinks, drains and bathroom fixtures should all be sparkling clean. Carpets and floors should be free of any stains and kept vacuumed and/or dust free. There should be no items left on kitchen and bathroom counters other than, perhaps, a decorative item to add color to the room.
De-personalize
Prospective buyers want to see your home as if they were the owners. Chances are slim that propsective buyers will share your personality traints. Your personal pictures and other items prevent them visualizing the home as theirs.
It necessary, you should consider storing some of your items until your house is sold. That will certainly help you to de-clutter and getting rid of all but the minimum furniture required to best decorate your home, will allow your home to appear larger than it would otherwise.
